Call me Ebenezer Scrooge. “Bah!” “Humbug!” Not that I don’t like or enjoy Christmas. After all, I’m a missionary. But all the stuff that goes with Christmas is generally annoying. Climbing into the attic to get the decorations. Moving all the furniture to make room for the tree. Putting up garland and lights outside in the bitter cold. Bah! Who needs it. Then we dedicate an entire day to go get the tree. This massive, bloated, Douglas Fir. It sheds. Everywhere. It’s like a giant cat. It just sits there, shedding.
But sprinkled among these moments of “Bah!” and “Humbug!” are occasions that I genuinely feel good about Christmas, like I did when I was a kid. When we got the garland and lights put up outside it looked very good. When we finished decorating the tree it was heavenly. And last night a group of carolers came to our door and sang songs for us. What a beautiful time of year it is!
