Home-Made Ice Cream
My sis whipped up some home-made ice cream this evening in a machine she just bought off of e-bay. The ice cream sort of tasted like Cool Whip, but Joshua sure seemed to enjoy it.

Call me Ebenezer Scrooge. “Bah!” “Humbug!” Not that I don’t like or enjoy Christmas. After all, I’m a missionary. But all the stuff that goes with Christmas is generally annoying. Climbing into the attic to get the decorations. Moving all the furniture to make room for the tree. Putting up garland and lights outside in the bitter cold. Bah! Who needs it. Then we dedicate an entire day to go get the tree. This massive, bloated, Douglas Fir. It sheds. Everywhere. It’s like a giant cat. It just sits there, shedding.
But sprinkled among these moments of “Bah!” and “Humbug!” are occasions that I genuinely feel good about Christmas, like I did when I was a kid. When we got the garland and lights put up outside it looked very good. When we finished decorating the tree it was heavenly. And last night a group of carolers came to our door and sang songs for us. What a beautiful time of year it is!

I took this after walking out of the room I was staying in at Patti’s house. The next two pics are of the same sunrise.
Call me strange, but autumn is my favorite. The beautiful array of colors and the warmth of family greetings is so inviting. I won’t break out in song, but just know that I could at any moment!
Whenever I tell someone that my favorite color is brown and my favorite season is fall, they usually want to know what’s wrong with me. I haven’t always been this way. In fact, for a long time I was undecided about such things. But over time I fell in love with autumn. At first, simply because of the pleasant weather!
I’ve got my fill of cute for at least a week or so. I just got through watching National Geographic’s March of the Penguins on Hallmark. I never knew the basic struggle to survive that these animals go through. And I was quite impressed with the effort the cinematographers put forth to produce this movie. I can’t imagine the personal sacrifice they made to get these shots, and over the course of thirteen months in one of the most inhospitable climes on Earth. March of the Penguins is great for a group of friends. But don’t forget your tissue; some parts are kind of sad.
