Fish in the Flower Pot

But you can't see them

2 March 2010, 09:00

I took this photo to show you that many of these flower pots have fish swimming around in them, but these ones were so small that I don’t think they showed up on the photo very well. You’ll just have to take my word that they’re there. The whole idea behind putting these beside your door is because the Lotus and the fish symbolise fortune and good luck.

I took this shot whilst strolling about Chiang Rai. I spent considerable time simply having a look around. I went back to Chiang Rai before heading to Mae Sai specifically to have some dental work done, but the dentist at Overbrook Hospital told me there wasn’t enough time. You see, I had to have a root canal procedure done on a tooth that had chipped, and in the West this is a two-hour ordeal. Not in Thailand. Here, you go for one to two hours, every three to five days, over a course of five weeks. Yeah. And guess what? It hurts every time you go. Especially if the dentist numbs the wrong set of nerves. But I’m not bitter.
