No relation to the more famous dog of the same name
8 February 2010, 09:00There are lots of dogs at Mrs. Wong’s church; they jokingly say they’re all Christians, because they faithfully come to church with everyone else, and lie on the floor in the front, near the pulpit. The youth pastor owns one of them, and his name is “Toto”. I asked folks if they had named him after Dorothy’s dog, and they looked at me with strange faces and asked, “Who’s Dorothy?” They’d never heard of The Wizard of Oz. Apparently, “Toto” has some meaning in one of the myriad languages spoken here.
He was kind of a guard dog, because he let no one near him nor his master. It took the full two weeks for him to warm up to me enough so that I could pet him without his snapping at me. He was regularly found prancing around just like this, with a leaf in his mouth. No telling why. I guess it was his “prey”. I particularly like this shot, because I was able to capture his motion while keeping his face in focus. Don’t ask me how I did that.
